HOW TO: Be More Productive
Productivity is one of my biggest battles when it comes to my business. It's waaay too easy for me to get distracted and waste time. I've tried all of the tricks out there, and these are the ones that work for me.
Make a plan.
Your calendar is your best friend! At the beginning of each week, I sit down and plan out my entire week. Then as the week goes on, it's not a question what I will be doing with my time. I already know. Put EVERYTHING in your calendar.
Track your time.
If I give myself an unlimited amount of time to do a task, I will use it. I need to track my day, hour by hour, to keep myself on track.
When I wake up on the morning, my brain can't think of anything to do that day, so I have to make my to-do list the night before. This helps me SO MUCH.
Get in the zone, and stay there! It helps me so much to edit my photos in big chunks. Once I'm in the zone, I like to keep the momentum going and finish.
Cut out distractions.
Because I work at home, I get so distracted by every little task that needs to be done around the house. It can drive me insane. It helps me so much just to leave and go to a cafe. When I go into Zürich and surround myself with the energy of the city, I get so much done!
Also, Airplane Mode is the best invention ever.
Break down big tasks.
Baby steps. Think of the ultimate goal, and take the steps backwards to figure out where to start. The smaller the steps, the better.
Find your power hour.
We aren't all at our best at 6 a.m... Sorry to burst your bubble. I am useless before 2 p.m., and that's okay. As long as I know that about myself, I can work around it.
Start your day with the task you've been avoiding.
Answer that email. Pay that bill. Clean up that mess. Just do it. It will make you feel so much better, and give you the momentum that you need to start the day. You got this.
